MARKET REPORT

If any of these terms in the market report are confusing, we urge you to use Investopedia to make sense of them. We have found it to be a brilliant tool when learning about all things trading, futures and currency.

We kicked off 2026 with a similar sentiment to that of 2025… volatility. The market moved considerably in both directions, but ultimately the price relief was felt towards the end of the month with some momentum. The NY C opened the month at 348.40usc/lb and climbed over the coming days to the month high of 383.85c/lb before retracing to levels in the 350s. The market remained range bound for a couple of weeks between 341c/lb and 363c/lb. This was ultimately broken in the last week of the month jumping back up to 372.55c/lb before sharply reversing to test and break through lower support at the end of the month considered around 340c/lb. The month finished at 332.25c/lb.

Arabica NY C Graph

Robusta showed a slightly different pattern throughout the month with the levels remaining range bound between 3,816USD/MT and 4,093USD/MT for the first 3 weeks of the month. Like the Arabica market, there was a rally in the final days of trade to the month high 4,333USD/MT before closing out the month at 4,113USD/MT.

Rains continue to fall in Brazil over this crucial period for cherry development in the upcoming crop, which most consider to be decent in terms of production volumes. This matched with some more inventories being sent to the board to recover certified stocks has weighed on the market towards the end of the month. Elsewhere, Indonesia has been challenged with recent tropical storms that is impacting logistics throughout their islands, most notably in Sumatra. Colombia’s main crop has come in under expectations due to excessive rains throughout the middle of 2025. Positive expectations for the upcoming Mitaca starting in 6-8 weeks.

The AUD has appreciated against the USD over the past month substantially. Most of this movement has come from the weakness in the USD as well as expectations of a rate hike from the Reserve Bank of Australia early in the year (which came to fruition yesterday).

A WORD FROM THE CUPPING ROOM

Last week we had the pleasure of cupping one of the most unique coffees without caffeine!

Introducing the SWP Colombia El Vergel Estate Natural Anaerobic Co-Ferment - Emerald Micro Lot – Decaff.  It’s a mouthful to say, but it’s definitely a tasty one. This is Swiss Water’s first eve co-fermented decaff offering involving a partnership with the innovated team at El Vergel Estate.

Swiss Water has been working closely with the team at El Vergel Estate since 2004 to produce exceptional microlot coffees, often with an experimental and adventurous edge, and this coffee is no exception.

Grown in the Tomima region under the shade of guamo and yarumo trees, this lot begins with a 48-hour full-cherry anaerobic fermentation. After de-pulping, the beans are left in mucilage and co-fermented with yeast and watermelon for five days, before being pre-dried on patios and finished in static mechanical silos. A 30-day resting period allows the flavours to fully develop, resulting in an intensely tropical cup, bursting with honeydew and watermelon notes that lead into a sweet, tart candy-like finish.

El Vergel Estate was originally an avocado farm before owners Elias and Shady Bayter made the switch to coffee more than a decade ago. Since then, their commitment to continuous research and process experimentation has delivered consistent quality improvements year after year.
Innovation sits at the heart of the estate, from diverse varietal plantings and ongoing farm upgrades to modernised equipment and a solar panel array that helps reduce their carbon footprint. Native shade trees surround the farm as part of the ReForest program led by export partner Forest Coffee, who also invest directly in farming families through on-site housing and essential upgrades to the local school. Together, these sustainability-driven initiatives represent everything we aim to celebrate in exceptional coffee.

This coffee is due into store June/July if you’d like to secure a bag from this inbound stock, please speak to your Bennetts Account Manager.

GROUNDS FOR HEALTH UPDATE

In 2025, Bennetts proudly donated a total of USD $10,000 to the Grounds for Health (GfH) non-profit organisation through our ongoing annual support and our first ever Australian GfH Auction. These contributions provided essential funding for GfH’s life-saving work.

Thanks to this support, more than 17,000 women were able to access cervical cancer screening services in the past year, including HPV testing for 8,000 women, four times more than in any previous year. For many, these screenings were the first step toward early detection, treatment, and long-term health.

Behind these numbers are real women, families, and communities. Strong partnerships have been built, healthcare workers trained, and local communities empowered to prevent cervical cancer and protect future generations. This support is helping to bring hope, dignity, and life-saving care to women in coffee-growing communities who face significant barriers to healthcare access.

If you want to learn more or make a direct donation yourself, please visit https://groundsforhealth.org/for more information.

WAREHOUSE UPDATE

Our northerly customers may have noticed some changes in our QLD warehouse operations lately. We have now completed the move to a new 3PL in the Brisbane area.

We wanted to say thank you to our customers for their patience during this transition time, and we hope we were able to keep the disruptions to a minimum.

For now, it’s business as usual for despatches of full pallets out of our QLD store. And we welcome any feedback you may notice after our shift. Thank you!

Happy Roasting,
The Bennetts Team
